Previously, Ms. Farhat served as a Senior Program Officer and Regional M&E lead at the National Democratic Institute (NDI), where she provided political and organizational expertise to support civic, awareness, and educational programs in the Middle East and North Africa, Morocco & Mauritania, Tunisia, and West Bank, Gaza. Over the years, she has served as Director of Business Development at Middle East Dove – SAL, Offshore in Beirut, as Principal and Business Development Director for Smart Solutions, LLC., Iraq and Lebanon, and as Assistant Chief of Party at the United States Institute of Peace (USIP), and as M&E Director at ACDI/VOCA, OSCE.
Jelena’s experience includes a diverse work history with international non-government organizations (NGOs) and private contractors, as well as the United Nations. She holds a dual Masters's in Cultural Policy and Management (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization Chair) from the Université Lumière Lyon 2 and University of Arts Belgrade, a Master’s in social psychology from the Faculty of Philosophy, Belgrade University, and diploma in Peace Studies from NGO MOST (Bridge) and Alternative Academic Educational Network (AAEN). In 24 years of practice, she has worked exclusively in conflict-impacted and underdeveloped areas. Her program implementation experience spans elections, peace studies, urban land finance, education, asylum seekers/refugees/internally displaced peoples/migrants, labor market support with a focus on curriculum and qualification reform, active labor market policy, career guidance to primary school students, political parties, trade unions, media and radio management, youth and gender issues, gender-based violence, female genital mutilation/circumcision and child protection, small-medium enterprises, civil society organizations, local government strengthening, as well as Knowledge, Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning (KMERL) design and implementation.

Before ascending to Editor in Chief, his career started as a newsroom and field journalist in several Middle Eastern and North African countries, including but not limited to Syria, Morocco, Norway, and the USA.
